General FAQs

All solar inverters are designed to disconnect from the grid during an outage. Only inverter with a battery installed or a Fronius PV point will have power during a black out.

An STC is a Small-Scale Technology Certificate. You will also hear them referred to colloquially as the Solar Rebate. Introduced in 2011 STC’s are a part of Australia’s Renewable Energy Target. This incentive or “rebate” serves the purpose of reducing the cost of installing solar on your home or business through the creation of these technology certificates. The amount of STC’s which are applicable to your solar system depends on the size of the system being installed. Installers claim the STC’s on behalf of the customer and provide a point of sale discount for trading them.

Yes, East Coast Energy Solutions has 3 teams of SAA accredited solar installers and designers. All installations are done in house by our own employees.

Most residential installations take around 1 day with more complex installations taking up to 3 days. Commercial installations can range from 1 day to 4 months depending on the size of the installation.

Yes. Contact your home insurance company to make sure your home and contents insurance covers your new solar system.

Your system will require periodic cleaning. Panels over time will accumulate, dust mould or dirt on the, which will require cleaning. You will also need to make sure debris is not building up underneath the panels – leaves or birds’ nests. Best method for cleaning solar panels is fresh water and a soft haired broom.

Solar systems are sized off many different factors including the number of phases at your property, amount of power you consume, your consumption habits, the available roof space at your property and if you are planning to add a battery. Residential system sizes have increased over the past few years with standard system sizes around 13kW. Residential System sizes generally range from 6kW to 40kW.

When your solar system is producing more energy than you require, it will be exported into the electricity grid. The electricity meter will ready the amount of kWh’s exported into the grid over your billing cycle and will add it as a Solar Feed-In Credit. Feed-In Credits change every year and is set by the Queensland Competition Authority (QCA).
